Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting our first event and with an insightful panel discussion on the transition to sustainable transportation. Our panelists, representing different key actors within the EV ecosystem, shared their perspectives on the challenges, opportunities, and collaborative efforts needed to accelerate the shift to electric mobility.
The discussion began with a focus on the biggest challenges facing the EV industry, both in Sweden and globally. Mattias Bergman, CEO at Mobility Sweden, highlighted several critical barriers, including charging infrastructure expansion, supply chain limitations, and the need for regulatory support. The panel also discussed the importance of ensuring that the EV market remains accessible to a broad consumer base.
Addressing opportunities, Anders Lindström, Head of Risk & Remarketing at Autolease Scandinavia, emphasized the role of incentives and growing consumer awareness in driving the transition. He pointed out that fleet electrification presents a significant opportunity, with companies increasingly looking for sustainable solutions.
A key theme that emerged from the discussion was the necessity of collaboration among different stakeholders. Anders Lindström and Magnus Hommel, Director of Public Charging at Mer, spoke about the importance of partnerships between charge point operators (CPOs), E-mobility System Providers (EMSPs), leasing companies, and other industry players like Northe. They stressed that seamless integration of services and infrastructure is essential to improving user experience and accelerating adoption.
The conversation expanded to explore how the industry as a whole can work together to drive progress. Panelists and attendees agreed that sharing best practices, engaging in policy advocacy, and investing in scalable solutions would be crucial steps toward a faster transition.
Robert Martinson, Fleet Manager at Beijerbygg, provided concrete examples of successful initiatives where the collaboration between Beijerbygg’s leasing company and Northe has been key in their transition. He said that without Northe, none of this would have been possible.
Magnus Hommel shared Mer’s mission to simplify EV charging and make it more accessible. He stressed the need for seamless payment solutions, a robust charging infrastructure, and strong partnerships to drive network expansion. Recognizing Northe as a key partner, he highlighted its vital role in uniting stakeholders and accelerating the transition to effortless electric mobility.
Marcus Rosenborg, Sales Director & Network Director at Xpeng, addressed how the price and availability of EVs affect adoption. He noted that while battery costs are gradually decreasing, upfront prices remain a barrier for some consumers. He emphasized that government incentives and innovative financing models play a crucial role in making EVs more accessible.
Robert Martinson discussed the common misconceptions that still prevent EVs from being the first choice for many car buyers. While concerns about charging availability, range anxiety, and second-hand market value were once significant barriers, ongoing advancements and industry developments have largely addressed these issues. However, many people still hold these outdated views, underscoring the need for continued efforts to shift perceptions.
Closing the discussion, Mattias Bergman outlined Mobility Sweden’s vision for sustainable mobility by 2030. He emphasized that the transition to electric vehicles is a major part of this agenda, but industry collaboration and policy support will be necessary to achieve long-term success.
Our panel discussion emphasized that the transition to sustainable transportation depends on strong collaboration between the stakeholders. By joining forces, we can overcome challenges, seize new opportunities, and make electric mobility the standard rather than the exception. At the heart of this effort, Northe serves as the glue connecting key players and driving the industry forward through collaboration and innovation.
We are grateful to our panelists and attendees for contributing to this important conversation and look forward to continuing the dialogue on enabling a more sustainable transportation future.
